BlogMe, Baby

You know how you can have a small brain fart and it turns out to be bigger than you imagined?

No?

Ok. Do you know how adding water to gremlins makes them multiply? How about the Bebe’s Kids multiplication theory?

No?

Fine. Do you know how the acorn can grow into a humongous oak tree?

Good. Finally!

My idea of interviewing the conference attendees that I’m anxious to meet in San Jose this month has finally gotten the better of me. Women (and a few men!) giving short interviews to help us get to know one another and network faster was a tiny brainchild I had and shared with a few other bloggers.

I contacted several women and asked if they’d be interested in doing a memeish-type post and they all jumped in the air and did cartwheels and shouted “Huzzah!” Unless that was all in my head, in which case I was the one shouting “Huzzah!” for no apparent reason. One would think this was an oddity for me, but it’s not.

Two of the women I contacted are contributors to the BlogHer network and there was a little buzz until all of a sudden it had a pronounced “and-she-told-two-friends” vibe to it.

Until it got all the way up to one of the co-founders of BlogHer.

Now, everyone is going to be invited to participate and it’s a half-grown oak tree. Smack in the middle of my living room, too.

Starting Monday, the Original Eight women will begin with interviews and links to other interviews. Even if you’re not going to attend the conference, you are henceforth invited to participate.

The BlogMe button you see above will be available to grab from this site soon as well as the questions you may use. It is with my sincerest hope that we support one another in this and learn more about the people we read.

I just don’t want a full grown oak tree in my living room. You know, the squirrel shit and leaf mess would be horrendous.

How soon the snowball rolling evolves into an avalanche. Yet this is good. It will be great to learn more about those whose thoughts I read. I use to think this “blog” thing was weird–that was before I understood the absolutely greatness of it. I love blogging…I love reading other blogs. It is an amazing way to connect with people and have “relationships” without the small talk and while sitting around in my underwear, drinking coffee and there is no threat of being arrested for indecent exposure. Can’t wait to read the interviews. I might even be brave enough to complete one. We’ll see. I’m still not brave enough to put my underwear at the top of the pile.

It’s an awesome idea, something akin to a storytelling project that NPR has been working on for the past few years. Theirs is a recording of oral history as friends and family interview each other. This should produce some really interesting conversations because there’s plenty of pre-interview fodder floating around in the blogosphere that will add a completely different dimension to each interview. I look forward to reading them!

I’m so excited! And I just can’t hide it! (Yes..sing it with me now!) I’m about to lose control and I think I like it!

I don’t have a friggen clue where the hell the Pointer Sisters came from. But I am excited for the Button and The Interview Questions.

And yeah, Oak Trees in living rooms, not such a good thing. It may break through the ceiling eventually and your home may not be sale material!

Why are you surprised Ms. Mocha? Women have always been a powerful influence whenever we choose to turn our attention to something. You, oh alpha woman, run with this and we are going to be joining in (but uh, sorry, I am SO not into cleaning up squirrel ANYTHING and leaf collecting…so a child task, that is WHY we had kids to begin with, right? ;) )

Many hugs for having a great idea and getting the recognition for it too!

I can’t help but think that the more you know the less there is to like. Anyone who knew more about me would be outtahere. At least that’s the way it is in real life, so I am thinking this would be no different. But I am not known for my sanguinity - at least sanguinity used in the sense of optimism - the other sense - well, that’s part of what you don’t wanna know…

The squirrels alone would make the oak tree a no-go in my book; I’m scared sh*tless of squirrels. Nasty little buggers!

And while there are those bad things about the oak tree.. just remember, you can cut it down and make yourself a nice new piece of furniture.

If the restaurant at the hotel doesn’t have good coffee, (which they damn well better have!), let’s find a coffee shop on Saturday, yes? I always see photos of celebs coming out of “Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf”, maybe we can find one of those.

CIEL is not strictly a ‘lit blog’ but a ‘culture blog’ commenting on all arts. Emptying the nest my ‘daughter leaving home’ blog. I’ll be at Blog Her both days - live in SF… Ciao, Joan
