Opening My Big Mouth

See what happens when I write about my job? Everyone has questions and comments and now I have to write a Part Dos to this. When are we going to get back to talking about ME? I knew that other educators could appreciate the work I talked about, but there are a faction of teachers [...]

Hot. Black. Strong.

Sure, it’s an old joke: that’s the way I like my men. I happen to have 2 out of 3, so I’m not complaining. Today, my cuppa is all three. I’m sampling Peet’s Las Hermanas which they described as “honeyed”. Honey, I think, is best strong. Great aroma that went down smoothly and had a [...]

Burning Question #679

It has come to my attention that I should really explain my job as a literacy coach. For some time I would get e-mails about my job (What is that? What do you do?) and lately several people who read me asked me essentially the same questions and I figured it was time. Because in [...]

Proud of The Hyatt

Here’s why I’m proud of you, dear Hyatt folks: The coffeemakers in the room are decent-sized. The directions to the closest coffeeshops were simple. The conference coffee that wasn’t from McDonald’s was pretty good. You thought enough about having creamer out (and in different flavors!) and even three types of syrup (hazelnut, vanilla, and irish [...]

My Week. It Was Long.

Rules. They Are Stupid. Must… stop… BREAKING THEM. You will think I’m kidding, but I am not. When I was asked to attend a conference here at the Hamburger University at McDonald’s Office Campus (special coffee everywhere) I was apprehensive to say the least. I’m staying at ANOTHER Hyatt after checking out of a Hyatt [...]

Starbucks, Here I Come!

We’re not going to worry about hotel coffee today. The pods I made? Going to take them home. The lovely lady at the front desk pointed us in the direction of the closest Starbucks where I will order a SUPERHUGE-HUMONGOUS LATTE WITH A DOUBLE SHOT. Maybe hazelnut. Maybe skinny. Maybe yes. Yes.

Dear Alex

Belinda has requested some help. I am here to the rescue. The only thing I won’t do is dispute my Vixen Status. Of that, I am proud and hope to have t-shirts made up and everything. The painting job that she needs finished is really wearing on her. She’s tearing her hair out and because [...]

Homemade Pods

I’m so pathetic about my coffee these days that I actually take the good stuff with me places. My Peet’s Ethiopian blend is coming with me to Chicago and I’ve been sewing and stapling mini-pods full of coffee to fit into the coffee makers that are always in the hotel rooms. I’m also shoving packets [...]

Hotel Hellishness

As if life weren’t busy enough, I’m off to Chicago for a few days to attend another conference. This time, it’s not for personal recreational purposes (read: fun). It’s for work. It’s something I do quite a bit for my job as a literacy coach and normally I don’t mind. This time, however, I just [...]

Homemade Cafe

On my trip I had Korean coffee, Peet’s, and hotel coffee, but there’s nothing like making my own pot where I measure it out just the way I like. I’m finishing the Moroccan blend today and it’s not lost any of its spicy, strong flavor. It’s good to be home.
