Be Aware Of Breasts

As it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and all is pink everywhere I go, I am doing my part to wear as much pink as possible. I swear it has nothing to do with the fact that I love that color and look so cute in it. Swear.

To support the two breast cancer survivors in our building we had a PINK! day last Friday for the male who wore the most pink and we’re also wearing pink ribbons. The P.E. teacher has been wearing his all week long and today a student approached him to mention something about it.

Student: So. Is that for Breast Awareness Month?

P.E. Teacher: Why, yes. Yes, it is.

After I stopped snorting from laughter at his recitation of this story, I saw him in the hallway with three female teachers standing near him and chatting.

Me: Just so you know… right there? Six breasts. Be aware.

Wow, men now need a month to help them be aware of breasts. When WILL this metrosexual trend end? *tsk!*

Glad to hear that Breast Cancer Month is being focused on in your work…and way to go for the guys wearing pink!

Thanks for the blog. My girlfriend is currently going through her second round of breast cancer. Anything to make people aware is great.

I agree with S. Any awareness is great. At my last breast cancer walk I noticed a lot of male survivors, more than I expected.

It’s amazing how many people don’t understand that this is a cancer that can affect everyone, no matter the gender. It’s also a cancer that is no longer a death sentence, thanks to all those who have supported the cause.

Ok, I’m all teary and need to go hug my mom.

Kelly, when you began by mentioning the reason to wear pink, it reminded me of something from school days. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance was promoting their own sort of awareness day and had posted signs saying something like, “Show support for our cause Friday, Oct. 27, by wearing blue jeans.” If I recall, there were quite a few jean-clad folks on campus on the appointed day. A triumph for advocacy? Likely not. When would students ever not wear jeans? It was a clever ploy, though, nonetheless.

Of course, you said that your support has nothing to do with being “pretty in pink”.

And for the record, I believe that supporting breasts is a good thing.

There is so much I want to say about this topic, but I know it is a serious subject for too many people, so I won’t make my usual sacastic remark…. but I do propose next month to be testicular cancer month, and I am going to show my support by wearing a jock strap on the outside of my pants to show my support.

To do my part, I’ve been offering breast examinations to as many women as possible. My slap to grope ratio is probably about 400:1. Unfortunately the sample size is around 250. But I live in hope.
