Making My Point For Me

While the lovely Afrobella mentions the Jena Six story has made the front page, in my neck of the woods it was on page 8. Of the Sunday paper.

Don’t get so smug, townies. The NAACP was founded here.

We never saw it once here in Canada… unless of course you watched American news… or like me… read up on it online. I have started a blog posting on racism… not yet posted… want to make sure it is well articulated before posting. It was inspired by the Jena 6.

Page 9 of our Sunday paper - and I only know that because I bought a copy yesterday (I stopped our subscription). I’d be curious though if I took a poll at school how many are even aware of the story. When I mentioned it to our principal a month ago, she didn’t know anything about it. Our front page story yesterday? Frosh moving into the university dorms…haven’t they done that every Sept. for umpteen years?? This town likes to portray itself as such a progressive and liberal place, but it’s really just a ‘burb that’s taken a powerful anti-growth stance.

I don’t remember where it was exactly in the paper - but it was before page 8, I think.

Our local paper focuses on local news, so I get most of my national news online. Our local did, however, run some good columns by columnists who looked beneath the surface and brought out details.
