When my job is good it is very very good.
When it is bad my heart breaks.
Today a former student died. He was murdered in his home.
He was 18. Just a baby.
We are all devastated.
Goodbye, Carlos. I wish I had done more and I always will.
This is onerous. I hate it.

How heartbreaking. You do what you can, after that it’s not in your hands.
We know this is true, but it can suck when someone says it to us. Someday you may have occasion to say it to me. Please do.

Everything I want to say sounds trite and insincere. Love is being sent your way.

Although she hasn’t said it, I think one of the reasons that my mom reads the obituaries every day is that she’s checking to see if any of her former students are there. And too often they have been, as have former classmates of mine.
I’m sorry Carlos was killed and I’m sorry for your and your fellow teachers, your student’s, and his family’s grief. I wish there was something I could say to make you feel better, but…there just isn’t anything to say, is there? But don’t you dare start kicking yourself about the things you “should have done.” I have complete confidence that you did your best by him because I know you…and feeling guilt for things that you have no control over doesn’t help anyone.

Will be thinking of you today. Anyone who reads this blog knows how much you care about the students, and how hard this news must be for you.

We lost a former student a couple weeks ago. He was one of those kids that was always polite, always smiling, always helpful. He graduated in 2005, but still lived here in town.
I didn’t realize how attached I have become to these kids, and they have become like my own children. And I didn’t know it would hurt me so badly, when we lost him.
I find I am still looking to see his smiling face when I go into the grocery store and get my big bear hug. His name was Jeremy; and like Carlos, he had his whole life ahead of him and he is gone way too young.
My thoughts and prayers are with your school, and Carlos’s family and friend. It is still rough around here; and I know it will be difficult in the weeks to come.
Much Love

I’m so terribly sorry to hear about your student. It’s devastating when a life is taken prematurely. I never can understand things like this. No matter how hard I try.
-hugs to you-

Take care. Of yourself. Really.

Sending big, fat hugs your way, Kelly. I know you feel like each one of those students, in a special way, is your own.
Hoping you are able to make it thru the next few days with some measure of peace.
