Congratulations! It’s A Girl.

by Mocha Momma on October 11, 2008

I’ve been busy bonding with my 21-year old daughter whom I placed for adoption years ago. Oh? Did I not mention that to all of you?

Here. Take a peek.

I know how happy we were when our birth niece found us and she discovered where her art came from. I always knew she’d show up.

Well, first – it’s obvious that she’s kin ’cause she’s got the same smile and twinkle in the eyes that all of your family has (like you’re just on the verge of saying THE SINGLE FUNNIEST EVER ™ or, you know, honk someone on the nose…which ever one comes first).

Second, great photos. But that’s not surprising.

What is surprising is that you continue to be just that. Surprising. Best to you and all your (ever expanding) family, as always. Joy to the joyful…and the more the merrier. :-)

WOW. Just…wow!

At first I thought you were kidding, but…wow! Yes she is gorgeous. Just like her mama.

Congrats on the reunion. That’s so wonderful!

Cool – Tell us more. You can’t just drop a bomb like that and walk away. Details….How are the other kids taking it. How did she find you. Etc.

I am crying… I wish so much for this for my daughter someday, but I don’t think it will happen for either her or her birthmother… Eva was born in China and I used to think we were lucky to not have to “worry about” her birth parents… now, I would do anything to just at least let them know she is loved and adored and happy… and, when the day comes when she wishes she could know them, I wish I could deliver.

I’m sorry, I forgot to add my congratulations to you… she is beautiful and you both look so relaxed and happy… our world is always a little better when this kind of grace happens.

Wow, congrats! She’s a stunner – not surprising given her lineage – and looks like a fun lady to hang out with!

Ok, I am back for my 3rd comment which I think makes me some sort of stalker… This is a wonderful time for both of you and she looks quite lovely and happy and confident and, as an adoptive parent, that makes me feel all warm and cuddly.

You both look radiant. Congrats!

And should we send cigars? Vodka? Coffee? How does one celebrate a 21 year old baby?

I’m trying to get out from under this rock and respond. And it’s OVERWHELMING. That’s the word of the day. Trying to form thoughts for this is surreal, but it’s not easy. That goes without saying.

Can I just say thank you for everything? Please? Because if I tried to go through every thought and emotion that goes with the thanks and love I’m feeling here then I’ll be a puddle of mess right now and nobody wants that.

Details are forthcoming. Give me some time, please. And whoa, if y’all aren’t blowing me over with emails and phone calls and just love, love, love. Because you are. Thank you.

Was this daughter before or after Mallory? That must have been such a difficult time for you. I’m glad you two have met now. How do the girls get along?

Cynthia Samuels October 16, 2008 at 5:15 am

I remember when you first heard from her. I’m so glad you decided to meet. She’s beautiful and looks comfortable, at ease. That is a tribute to you my love. Thinking of you often……

Oh! She is beautiful. Golly it looks like she inherited your wonderful spirit along with your smile. Loving the smile :o )

You gave someone an incredible gift. How neat that you get to see the result of your generosity. You are quite the woman Kelly.

So when one door closes another one really does open up, huh?

I’m glad you’ve found one another! What a great reason for a celebration, renewing lost ties… but accessing all that has gone by, the loss, the time- I recognize that everything is tinged a bit.

One foot in front of the other. Forward, always forward.

Knowing my 7 year old’s intense desire to know her first mom with whom she hasn’t had any contact in quite a few years by her first mom’s choice, I’m grateful you were open to Maddie. I hope Maddie’s everyday parents and your family are supportive of your relationship. The new “normal” always takes some adjustment.

I hope, after some time rubber-banding between intense closeness and space apart, you and your daughter find a balance that works for both of you. Take your time, you two. You are worthy of this, you will be able to find your way together, and it’ll be good. Or it’ll be crappy. Or it’ll be both. But it’ll be right. Mazel tov.
