Ok, so I won’t say ONE WORD in my post, but here I will mention that I took these pictures myself on the day that Barack Obama was in Springfield, IL to announce his candidacy.
My children were there. I was there. I was this close to him.
Historic moment for us. When I say “us” I mean all of us. You, too.
I remember seeing these photos and Kelly’s notes about the Obama announcement at the time. To be there at “ground zero” had to have been a great thing.
I’ve wept tears of anxiety relief for results of this election. For voters to place Obama in the White House as the President-elect is a tremendous event. My state of VA actually voted for Obama! I need to pinch myself a little. I’m not an Obama worshiper, as I don’t think anyone should be, but I do believe in what he stands for, his strength, the hope of a different course. It’s truly an inspirational time.
The adversity of the fantastic war debt, the managing of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the financial meltdown, lack of jobs, etc., are extremely difficult obstacles. Imagine that we will have a President who can effectively communicate with the People, as should be done (in full sentences, no less!) about what is happening in real time, not only post-event. I can’t wait to do my part to part of the solution.
I think about what John Murtha of PA said about racism in rural areas of PA negating some of the vote for Obama. I’m still an idealist, even in my middle age, but I’m not naive enough to believe that what he stated is not true. What I hope is that those folks who wouldn’t vote for Obama because of his race, will be shown that it’s the man (or woman) that matters most.

My state (CO) also went blue, first time in 16 years. I too hope people will be willing to open their hearts & their minds in the next 4 (8?) years & work together. There is so much work to be done, and so much common ground on which we can ALL agree.
I hope this President can help restore some humanity & humility to the way the U.S. is perceived internationally. Yes, I know that perception & reality can be polar opposites, but our country has taken a beating in the eyes of the world (& not always undeservedly) by what the current occupant of the White House has done or said. We are a young, resilient, diverse nation with big hearts & minds. What happened yesterday illustrates that, in my humble but earnest opinion.
And selfishly, I hope that the winds of change refresh Mocha Momma so she will start blogging regularly again, because I miss her!!!
I place very little value in the way the U.S. is perceived internationally. If what other people’s perceptions were mattered to me, I would never have stepped outside my own comfort zone. What I hope, is that finally there is an administration that brings all the voices to the table, not just the voices who are in agreement with the man in charge. That is after all what got us in trouble during the last eight years.
hopefully this wind of change will be a hurricane in the right direction. As much as I admire the man, he’s about to begin waging a major uphill battle to fix what the present administration has done. He’s got 8 years of turmoil to straighten out…His confidence and a strong administration will get the job done though.
