In an effort to save time in the writing process I considered using this writing space to figure some things out with the help of the commenters (that’s you, in case you didn’t know) (even though, yes, you’re smarter than I am and of course you knew that!) In this quest, I realized that more than anything I have more questions than answers:
Why are my teachers working harder than the students? Why does our AYP look so bleak and pathetic? When will we see some turnaround from all our efforts?
Why do students insist on getting more and more piercing knowing that it will be refused in our school building? When will our school board give up that ghost and just let them do it? Why don’t I care that much about facial piercings when I know that it will be difficult for some of my students to get a job with all that stuff in their face?
How is it that trying to fit in an apple a day is so hard? Why have I carried the same apple to work three days in a row and not eaten it?
How can I expect my students and my own children to be respectful when they see grown folks on television shouting at the president, taking microphones away from young singers to spout off about who should have won an award, and fans who vandalize the home of sports players? Am I the only parent trying to instill some respect and thought into my children?
Does anyone make coffee-flavored bed sheets so that I stop rushing to the kitchen in the morning to brew a cuppa? Should I start wearing coffee-colored clothing since I spill it on me so very much?
Why are women so HORRID to one another and go for the jugular when they’re upset with another woman? Will I ever encounter another female who doesn’t turn into a psychotic maniac when she’s pissed off about something? Will I ever turn into that woman and backstab other women as much as they seem to come after me?
Are people sending their children to public schools more because they can no longer afford private tuition? Have our numbers ever been this high at the beginning of a school year?
Do you floss your teeth on a regular basis or just when you know you’re visiting the dentist soon?
Am I ever going to get some respite from this financial crap and stop being punished for trying to make more money to support my shoe habit family?
Will Tyra Banks ever quit trying to pretend like she’s sympathetic to Black women and their hair issues?
Are my efforts to be more green (taking my own grocery bags, walking whenever I am able, turning off the lights when I’m not using them, recycling) really making much of a difference?
What is the best wrinkle cream to use around the eye area? Why can’t I afford the brand I’ve been using anymore?
Where are my favorite pair of green and yellow underwear? Huh? Where?
Does any of this make sense?

Thats a LOT of questions, momma. You shouldn’t have waited so long to let them pile up like this.
I’ll pick the hard ones.
Why do students insist on getting more and more piercing knowing that it will be refused in our school building? When will our school board give up that ghost and just let them do it? Why don’t I care that much about facial piercings when I know that it will be difficult for some of my students to get a job with all that stuff in their face?
These are fairly easy. You live in a place that is behind the times. Those kids will get jobs the same way kids with arm sleeves (tattoos) and stuff get jobs. Ppl who hire them get tired of saying no and realize they gotta hire SOMEONE.
Will Tyra Banks ever quit trying to pretend like she’s sympathetic to Black women and their hair issues?
She’ll get bored soon enough. Some other dude will beat some other woman and she’ll get back on that again. be patient. Men have a way of coming through on these things.
Are people sending their children to public schools more because they can no longer afford private tuition? Have our numbers ever been this high at the beginning of a school year?
That is everywhere…especially in high flight areas.

Wow. More random awesomeness. I could be here all day if I tried to tackle the deeper questions–I only have one piercing per ear (I’m really old). So I’ll address some of the easier ones:
Apple a day? When I was in grad school, I had a long commute home, so I would eat an apple then. In the car. With nobody looking. Now I don’t commute and I don’t eat apples as much anymore.
Floss regularly? Daily! I discovered Glide dental floss when I was in my mid-20s. A hygienist (spelling?) told me about it after she had spent what felt like an hour scraping my gums until they bled. I found my flossing religion that day.
Going green? I carry my own bags, etc. And as I watch my fellow grocery shoppers fill plastic bag upon plastic bag and then shove those bags back into their cart that’s already full of bottled water…I have to believe that even just a little bit helps. Momentum takes a long time to build.
And eye cream? I use a Neutrogena eye cream. I think it’s pricey–about $20 for a little tube. I’m running low, so I’m squeezing the crap out of that tube twice a day! You just know that if men used eye cream it’d be only $5 a tube.
Oh, and the underwear–you never know. I just found a pair in my underwear drawer that I hadn’t seen in over a year–it was like new free underwear!

I’ll answer some of the easier ones, cause you know, that’s how I roll. Oh dear God, I just said “how I roll”.
Anydoodle…
~ Instead of carrying around that silly apple, how about buying some of those all-natural dried apple chips that are so popular with the Whole Foods crowd? I love them and honestly, fruit chips are the only way I ever eat any fruit at all.
~ I wonder if they make coffee flavored linen spray? That’s more of a question to answer your question but still, it would be rad.
~ I floss every day. Also, I use a waterpik. I may or may not have issues with loving oral hygiene. This makes it hard to date a man that doesn’t. Gag.
~ I use Dermalogica eye cream which is also expensive. Therefore, I am going to camp out here all day (or just stalk the blog later on) and see what others say!
Okay then, Miss Fluff and stuff out!

I teach at a private school, and we had an interesting shift in our enrollment this year. We did have some kids who left to go to public schools because their families just couldn’t afford the tuition – we expected that. What we didn’t expect was that we had almost as many (maybe even more) students come to our school FROM public school, because their parents decided that with all the budget cuts in the public schools, private school tuition suddenly seemed like a sacrifice more worth making. Interesting stuff.

I bought a car with cafe mocha color interior because I spill it so much.
I had a brown cat and a white cat and everything I owned showed cat hair. Next time I’m getting two animals the same color. Maybe cafe mocha? Or black because I wear SO MUCH black in the winter?

I’ll pick two random questions and answer them randomly:
“Sporadic” is the only word I can use to describe my flossing habits. Yesterday, my hygienist complemented me on “doing so well at home;” and my dentist gushed, “She really has excellent teeth, doesn’t she?” at least four times.
Oh, and you should know that the “apple a day” phrase was an advertising slogan from Prohibition, because the sale of apples dropped preciptitously when cider became outlawed. Don’t sweat it if you don’t cave to decades-old ad placement.

I’ve been carrying around the same apple for three days as well. Each day instead of the apple I’ve had something chocolate or cakey. so bad for me I know. But I am determined to eat my apple today. Shall I send you an email later to remind you to each yours???
I too only floss when I know i am going to the dentist and I try hard to do it more regularly. I need to as my mouth is worth more than my car.
As a teacher, I never wanted to work harder than my students. Students need to work hard to learn. That is a tough switch for teachers to make. We don’t trust our students to do it themselves. I supervise student teachers and I am having a conversation with one of my student teachers about group work and how it has to be taught. Students aren’t going to be able to right out of the box do everything we’d like them to. They need to be taught and given the opportunity. I know lots of teachers who try group work or project-based learning and give up after one or two tries because the “kids just can’t do it.” Let them try. Teach them how.
Coffee sheets–that would be awesome.
RESPECT…problem. People are always so surprised at how polite and nice my kids are (they are only 3 and almost 2) but my son who is three says please and thank you and asks for things nicely and knows how to take turns in a conversation, etc. Do people not teach these values anymore????
I don’t know why women are so horrid. I am happy that I am not one of the horrid kind–maybe that is why I don’t have a lot of women friends. Too much drama.

I am pretty sure the only way your children will learn respect is by turning the TV off! There is way too much non-sense going on for television right now. But I do have a suggestion for the president…..Maybe he should take a freaking DAY OFF from appearing on TV. I mean, he is not a super star. Doesn’t he have anything else to do besides be in front of camera? I’m getting really sick of it.
I’m not sure about coffee flavored bed sheets, but they do make these miracle coffee makers that have TIMERS and you can set it the night before and like magic you wake up and coffee is ready to drink!

Am I ever going to get some respite from this financial crap and stop being punished for trying to make more money to support my shoe habit family?
~possibly, potentially, but you’ll have to work more/harder/smarter to get it; it’s not gonna drop outta the sky (I know that sucks doesn’t it!!!!)
Will Tyra Banks ever quit trying to pretend like she’s sympathetic to Black women and their hair issues?

What is the best wrinkle cream to use around the eye area?
EYE CREAM ANSWER HERE!!!!! Have you ever heard of L’Bri? (Luh-bri) Aloe based, pure ‘n natural, internet only available and VERY REASONABLY PRICED. Go to the website http://puremouse.lbri.com, choose ‘new customer’ and set yourself up, then ‘go shopping’ choose skincare and find the Smooth & Firm Eye Repair Gel. It is $28.00 for a 1 oz jar that’ll probably last you 6 months to a year at minimum. Go try it!!!
(In the interest of full disclosure, yes I am a consultant for that company, yes that is my website. If you want a free sample, skip the ‘new customer’ bit and click the FREE Sample button in the middle. They do charge you the $6.75 in shipping, but then you get samples of the whole skincare line, including the eye gel. I’m tellin you, this eye gel is like MAGIC!)
Oh, and as for those underwear, try underneath that pair of jeans in your office. A friend found a pair of pants under her fiancee’s jeans in the office, no clue how they got there. Or you could check inside the walls of your dryer, another friend of mine had a hole in some part of her dryer and lost like 3 pair of underwear in there before realizing how bad that was and cleaning it out.

That a question that I have as well. What are the younger generations going to be like 10-20 years in the future when they grow up?! Its grotesque how everyone everywhere seems to be losing the concept of Respect, the golden rule, whatever you want to call it. People need to realize that everyone is not like them and be respectful of their opinions (to a certain degree). I work at a college and I find it horribly rude that people get up and leave in the middle of the professor’s lectures. If they don’t want to be there and think it’s a waste of their time, then they shouldn’t have come in the first place. Or wait to leave after. It’s only an hour in their life.

Yes, I mentioned Dermalogica earlier and how much I love it, but the $50 tube of Multivitamin Power Firm has had to be cut from my Beauty Budget. This is a horrible tragedy for me because that stuff is like LIQUID GOLD FROM THE BLOOD OF ANGELS AND PONIES AND SPARKLY FAIRIES.

Tyra Banks is a train wreck. You don’t want to watch yet you just can’t stop. I chastise myself everytime I fall into that trap. Feeling stupid for have just wasted time I could have been engaged in something much more productive (belly button lint picking, maybe?) She has a talk show because she can. Not because she’s genuinely sympathetic to anything. She comes off as fake. Often
I floss just before and for several days after the dentist only because I get in this whole “i’m so gonna keep this up”mode. Then reality sets in and I realize flossing is tideous and as long as I brush regularly what the hell (does my dentist read this blog? I hope not)
You don’t care about the students piercings because you respect their right to want to express themselves. You’d have hated for someone to tell you that you couldn’t express yourself in the way you wished when you were there age. You believe that when they get older they will realize the need to remove the piercings in order to work in certain (many) arenas
When you figure out the whole coffee sheet action, lemme know because I’d like to duplicate it . Only in chocolate.
Out of order I know but, I tried. The end.

Teachers are working harder because you have good caring teachers, good for your students!
peircings can be taken out…I have no idea why a school board would want to fight that particular fight.
Why do I insist on saving all the fruit in the house for my kids? I like fruit too!
No, you are not the only one trying to instill respect, all I want for my kids are that they grow up knowing how to be respectful of others, work hard, be honest, be compassionate, and be happy. I feel like I’m the only parent who doesn’t let my four year old say fart, or watch batman, or anything with gunsor fighting. Whatever ,we all have our own standards, but my boys-will behave!!
I’m now a full coffee junkie, I blame my keurig, which makes me wonderful, rich cups of coffee on demand, yeah that folgers stuff-just not good enough anymore, now all I need is a man servant to serve it in bed, and them tend to my kids for a while.
I do not understand why that happens, I have never done it, if I’m unhappy with you I’m either going to say nothing and let it go, or bring up the issue directly, yeah it makes me the odd duck in all female circles.
My husband and I are making the choice to send our child to a bottom of the barrel public school system, pay for private school next year, or move, when we are never going to get for this house what we have put into it in the housing market in our state. I think people are going public based on finances, I have no idea how we would pay for private, it sucks.
I floss occasionally, and always before the dentist.
Financial crap happens, especially when you have a family, just be happy you have your family, and try not to stress about money.
Have never watched tyra-except for the came out in a bathing suit show, and the hair show, and i’m pretty sure they were both by accident.
I hope so
I’m a big fan of philosphy hope in a jar, its pricey, but it feels so light and clean on, and my skin looks amazing. (oprah likes it too) also HAVE to recommend the microdelivery peel, make all my friends who come to my house try it, all have loved it.
Why do I always misjudge my underwear size and either buy too big or too small, or they fit until that first trip the dryer…except boy shorts, which fit great, but give me a wedgie….

So many questions, so little time.
I must answer the floss question, because I can be OCD about floss. My father had pyorrhea when I was a little girl, so he had to floss his teeth. I saw that and thought that was what grown-ups did, and I couldn’t wait to be big enough to floss my teeth. Now I do it regularly; feel funny when I don’t do it. btw, I don’t go to the dentist often, but when I do they always blather on about how clean my teeth are and how that must be hereditary. And they ignore me when I tell them that my mother was a yuck-mouth and my father has permanent halitosis.
Tyra is all about the wig. She forgot about black hair care forever ago.
As for the bed sheets? I don’t know if the convenience would outweigh the satisfaction of actually drinking the cuppa.
idk; I’ve rambled long enough; don’t have much to say to the other questions.

I’ll answer one of your questions. And since I think we’re in the same town, I hope it makes you feel a little better about today’s situation. Oh, and I hope you’re sitting down: === Have our numbers ever been this high at the beginning of a school year? ===
When I entered the freshman class at SSHS in 1970, the student population, as I recall, was well over 2,000; LHS and SHS were each just under 2,000. Just to clarify, that was for the whole school(s), not the class. I had several classes where the students were out the door in my high school career. By my senior year, the numbers had subsided somewhat. Also, we didn’t have as many private school choices then as we do now.

STUDENTS: Parents have stopped parenting, and started befriending.
TYRA: No, she’s an air-head, with her one-day social experiments
WRINKLES: Shea Butter (at night)
APPLE: You really don’t want it.
PIERCINGS: Rebelling, lack of respect for authority
SCHOOL BOARD: They should’nt. Giving into kids??? C’mon…That’s part of the problem with society now. They’re KIDS…not grown folk….and they should be made to follow some type of decorum in school and RESPECT AUTHORITY. Even grown folk, have to follow decorum…we can’t wear what we want to work…all the time…that’s the real world.

I can’t answer all of your questions, so I’ll just do the ones I think I have the answer to.
Piercings: They want to be unique — just like everyone else. I really think they’ll tire of them eventually. When I was a senior in high school, I had my upper ear pierced, along with 4 holes in each earlobe. After about 5 years, it got old and I took out the one on the tip of my ear and the ones in the fourth hole. Now I just have 3 small stud earring on each side (I’m 33 by the way)
The apple: As someone else mentioned on here, maybe you don’t really want an apple. Maybe grapes or strawberries instead? Blueberries are super-good for you. You could try that instead.
Kids being respectful: Parents, parents, parents. That is all.
Private vs. public: Tuition is somewhat reasonable and I’m sure we could find a way to pay for it (our youngest attends our church’s preschool, just like our oldest used to). But we want to save up money for family vacations and such. Also, the public school where our oldest attends is very very small and I wanted to give them a chance. Plus, I’ve gotten to know the principal and vice-principal and I like both of them.
Flossing: Only when I visit the dentist.
Tyra: Just wants to be thought of as being “down-to-earth” even though she makes $20 kabillion dollars. So she’s going to keep trying.
Going green: Every little bit helps.
Wrinkle cream: Sensaria-Natural bodycare http://www.sensaria.com – This is the only skincare line that works for me. Now that I’m over 30, my skin has gotten picky about what works. I haven’t used the wrinkle creams yet, but I’ve heard they work. The Pure Gold, however, is a miracle. It works like magic for acne scarring. A little bit goes a long way.
As for your underwear? Sorry, can’t help you there.

I am the parent of a multi-handicapped child so I don’t have to go through all the piercings and attitudes and all that. But I do have to say that parents need to parent first. You are not your childs best friend and they are not mini versions of you. Nurture them, discipline them, be role models. There are really good kids out there, and they had great parents.
If more parents sucked it up and did their jobs and not just passified their kids to assuage their guilt or whatever, I wonder what the next generation of leaders would be like. I am worried that we are raising a generation who feels that they are entitled to whatever because they have been given everything all their lives.

The only question I think I can really dwell on today is the one about rude kids. I don’t know what has happened other than maybe parents are just too tired and they don’t care as much. I think it’s really sad that my two sons have been told at EVERY house they go to how weird it is when they call the parents sir and mam’. We live in the Pacific Northwest and it is so uncommon that parents tell them “that’s the first time I’ve ever been called that by one of “so and so’s” friend. How polite, how sweet. ” Thank goodness my husband is a helluva role model and has insisted to the boys that they continue to talk to adults that way. As well as open doors for women, get the car door for their dates, bring flowers on occassion just because and compliment women, sincerely everywhere you go. He says you never know what kind of day they’ve had or when they’ve been complimented last. How much nicer the world would be if every PERSON, not just men, had that same outlook?? Kids are that way just because they have not been taught any better….. Love you Mocha Momma and thanks for giving us more to think about and talk about : )

Does anyone make coffee-flavored bed sheets so that I stop rushing to the kitchen in the morning to brew a cuppa? Should I start wearing coffee-colored clothing since I spill it on me so very much? Put the coffee pot on your night stand.
Why are women so HORRID to one another and go for the jugular when they’re upset with another woman? Will I ever encounter another female who doesn’t turn into a psychotic maniac when she’s pissed off about something? Will I ever turn into that woman and backstab other women as much as they seem to come after me? That’s always confused me too b/c I’ve never fought with my friends that way. Perhaps the estrogen explodes?
Are people sending their children to public schools more because they can no longer afford private tuition? Have our numbers ever been this high at the beginning of a school year? We have more and more people from other countries moving into the us. That’s how it is in my area which leads to more students obviously. Also, the economy is bad.
Do you floss your teeth on a regular basis or just when you know you’re visiting the dentist soon? dentist. ha.
Am I ever going to get some respite from this financial crap and stop being punished for trying to make more money to support my shoe habit family? probably not
Will Tyra Banks ever quit trying to pretend like she’s sympathetic to Black women and their hair issues? that makes me laugh. No. Tyra likes to mention that she’s a strong black woman every chance she gets. My red hair is actually similarish to “black” hair, so I sympathize with you!
Are my efforts to be more green (taking my own grocery bags, walking whenever I am able, turning off the lights when I’m not using them, recycling) really making much of a difference? yes. hopefully. maybe. uh, yes!
What is the best wrinkle cream to use around the eye area? Why can’t I afford the brand I’ve been using anymore? not the one that sarah jessica parker promotes. she looks fab in the commercial but horrid in everything else. i’d go with whatever andie mac dowell is promoting. she looks good!
Where are my favorite pair of green and yellow underwear? Huh? Where? my dog probably got ahold of them and chewed them up.
Does any of this make sense? sadly yes.

I have a suggestion regarding the eye cream. It might not be original, but I am 54 years old and am often times mistaken for 40 or younger and I have used the same regime my entire adult life. Nothing ever touches my eyes, as far as make-up removal, except vaseline..NEVER! I clean the rest of my face with a mild “off brand” cleanser and moisturize before bed and under make-up with vitamin E cream…it doesn’t matter what brand (I used the $2 jar from dollar general). It works for me. Sometimes less is more…yanno?
