This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

It’s not fair that I work all day and am the last one home.

It’s not fair that the television is already spoken for and I have to watch whatever other people have on it.

It’s not fair that the Discovery Channel was on for a really long time.

But what IS fair is that I got to listen to the conversation:

“Of course it’s the FEMALE’S job to tend to the young.”

“Where’s the big braggart running around with the sack of sperm, huh? When is it HIS responsibility?”

“It would be cool to be a different animal for a day. Every day you wake up a new animal. But I wanna be the lion the day after it’s fed. I don’t want to have to kill something.”

Then, later, this random one when I breathed on my son:

“You have dragon’s breath times onions.”

Yeah. My life is totally not even fair.

Oh the conversations. Sometimes I force myself to stay and keep my mouth shut and just listen. Other times I strain to listen to the lowered voices in the other room.

Lori E – You just reminded me to listen more often. Right now the kids are debating making some hot cocoa. I’m feeling the need to chime in on that one.
