First, I owe Mallory her birthday post. That poor kid hasn’t even gotten a birthday card from me because I spent all day Saturday moving out of my rental home and moving to my purchased one. I think it’s funny that my youngest asked me, “Mom? Is this our permanent home?” as if to imply we’ve lived in temporary places his whole life. “Uh, yeah, kid. I plan to be here a while.”
Second, I owe a really long post about something I found that belonged to my grandmother because it sort of blew my mind to read what she wrote in an essay in 1968 concerning issues of race. Once I wrap my brain around that I will get to it, but I fear it’ll be an emotional piece of writing for me so I’m going to take my time with it.
Finally, I have to at the very least post the video of me and Ree, The Pioneer Woman, dishing about shoes that we did for the Macy’s Putting It All Together campaign over on the BlogHer site. We named a few of the shoes (all girl names) and discussed the crucial issue of “toe cleavage” so you’ll want to click on the video below. I have to admit, though, that I haven’t watched it all the way through because, like many people, I cringe when I see myself on video. Pictures are fine because I can’t hear my voice (Is that really what I sound like? What the what?) and the first time I tried to watch it I did so with the sound off.
Oh, yeah. And now I owe the mortgage company for the house. But that one was to be expected. Pictures soon!

You look so pretty in this video chica! You don’t owe me anything for all that hotness.
I loved this!! And toe-cleavage is perfectly fine and sexy… and anyway, they lead to TOES not bewbs or butts… usually in good taste.
Loved hearing you talk, lady… you look GREAT on camera! Yay for you!!
Ok.. First off, you forgot you OWE ME A BREAKFAST!!!! I, however have decided to forgive you, Oh! Because you just purchased a New Home!!!!
Next, If that wasn’t the cutest interview EVER! Aw! I love you, and it made me think of every single pair of shoes I own… I wish I was at home rolling in them right now… Ooo, and I can’t forget about my purses, well, Because they’d be extremely jealous!!
You understand….
Love ya!
Janie-Bird!
I love you even more after hearing your voice. Can I be your stalker?
I agree with good old Furiousball (thanks for always keeping it real with the ladies, Van!). Gorgeous. Plus, shoes? Sigh. I’m in heaven. You take all the time you need.
First of all, I loved the conversation about how women wear beautiful shoes even though they are uncomfortable. Um, I get so (irrationally) annoyed when women say to me, “Oh, I love your shoes, but I don’t wear heels because they are just too uncomfortable.” And I’m all, “Duh, no doubt but that’s not really the point? If I wanted to be comfortable I’d wear some type of stabilizing flats. But they wouldn’t perfectly compliment my outfit while making my legs look long and lean, now would they?” Also, toe cleavage? Who looks at that? I found that weird. Also, I’m going to Vegas in two weeks and need to know how to numb my feet. Seriously.
I thought you both looked cute in the video. I do also hate photos and video of me, but I can assure you that did well.

You sound exactly the way I thought you would!
I think you owe me a post about how fucking awesome I am too.
I just watched that video and thought “What a cool and beautiful woman! I want to be her friend and maybe she can help me shop for shoes.” Seriously, you did a fabulous job.
I really like your blog! I’m a new author and have enjoyed this new experience. I find that it’s the most difficult and most rewarding. I’m also a graphic designer and love having that creative outlet as well.
Thanks for your post! I will be back for more updates.
