I took way more time off than I originally intended.
I feel the need to apologize, especially for the three precious notecards I got in the mail and the silly amounts of Are You Okay? e-mails. There was also the great packages that arrived from Fluid Pudding and the Caffeinated Librarian with hand-sewn purple fingerless gloves (for important freezing-weather-texting) and a superb hand-picked music CD, respectively. (I know their real names, people, but I honestly feel like I live in a comic strip sometimes when I refer to my blog friends by their blog names.) (How’s this for a panel? The Adventures of Mocha Momma and SuperFriends) (This is where my friends are named Fluid Pudding and Caffeinated Librarian and we all visit libraries and coffee shops and eat an insane amount of pudding.) (My love for parentheticals was NOT tamed while I took a break.)
So much has happened. Where should I begin?
First, the blog redesign is on such back order that we’re talking January, people. I can’t wait that long.
Second, I’m looking at doing all this blog writing for other sources. How about I just remember to maintain my own? Some nasty troll reminded me of this and instead of being all GIRL, PLEASE with it, she was promptly deleted. Wait, I forgot that I sent her a scathing email. Scathing, I tell you.
Third, my little students from school have found my blog. HI, STUDENTS. YOU’RE ALL SO VERY DARLING AND CUTE. Actually, I remember when I was writing about being back at middle school and some readers commented that it wouldn’t last long, but the Middle School Honeymoon is taking quite nicely. Recently, I sat at the detention table with some kids who normally don’t get detentions and when they saw my furrowed brow (yeah, I totally still got that) as I walked toward them they felt the need to explain what they’d done to get in trouble that warranted a detention. When I was done talking to them and asked my standard, “Now, what would have been a better choice?” question which I always ask because I want people to be responsible for their behavior they both said, “Thanks for giving us this….talk.” which my brain interpreted as SEE? CHILDREN LIKE BOUNDARIES AND BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE even though I know they might have just been being polite. So my answer is this: I am still loving my new school.
Since I have been offline a lot lately I have put in some time with working on making that manuscript take place and figuring out how to write book proposals and such. Maybe it’s sheer dumb luck or maybe I just write good e-mails (see above: scathing) because an editor liked my query e-mail so much he’s asked for the manuscript.
Which means I need to work on it. Which means I needed to stop by and tell you I’d be a bit longer than originally planned.
Really, you have no one to blame but yourselves. Remember back at the beginning of the year? Remember that? When y’all were all This is gonna be your year! 2010 is going to be great for you! and I was sort of miserable and crabby and now I have all this great stuff going on and the divorce is over and the kids are all right and I bought a gorgeous new house and my mom’s health is improving and someone wants to read my manuscript and my job is like Disneyland and I basically told 2009 to shove it and then I found great love with a man I like to call The Cuban (such a long story) and I’m staring the age of 40 down the barrel and I don’t care because my magical unicorn was finally delivered? Remember that?
That.

Trolls… they have abounded lately. It’s like the full moon for crazies, except it’s Troll Full Moon.
I’ve picked up writing on 3 other blogs than my personal one and warned my readers that I will (again) not be posting as much on the personal. I just feel creative and want to let those outlets have more of my thought process and time than my navel gazing.
No apology is needed for where you choose to spend your time.
Best of luck with the manuscript!!!
