Childish Gambino version of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep”

by Mocha Momma on November 16, 2011

I have Adele stuck in my head this morning. It’s all I can do to stop hearing it in my head. I’m not much up for writing again about the BofA fiasco going on (as it’s still ongoing and, as yet, unresolved) so I’m focusing on music.

When Mason came home to visit early this fall he introduced me to Childish Gambino who I know as Troy from the tv show “Community”. Instantly, I loved this version, and as I’ve thought about it this morning I have to admit that now I have “Troy and Abed in the moooooorning” stuck in my head. Anyway, enjoy. I think it’s going to get me through today.

How do you feel about the misogyny in Childish Gambino’s lyrics? I’m a bit peeved at Donald Glover, especially since he seemed to be very intelligent about most matters.

You know, it’s NOT my favorite thing. I know that sounds like the easy way out, but I suppose I have become so conditioned to hearing it and tuning it out that I will forgive it from time to time when the rest of the sounds are so good. That’s such a crappy answer, isn’t it?

There are times when I hear misogyny so clearly that I turn from the music right away no matter what. Maybe it depends on how much I feel like ignoring it. But you are dead on – Donald “appears” to be more intelligent and has sold out to that, pandering to the lowest common denominator. If only he’d use bad music then I could ignore him completely. So let’s focus on Adele! :-)

She is truly a gift. There isn’t one thing I dislike about her. Even that garish eye makeup. (But it’s hardly fair to dislike her for that.) She’s kind, sweet, and has one helluva voice.

Thanks for responding. It turned me off him, although I still watch the show he’s on. I have the same conclusion as you do for other celebrities/musicians.

Adele needs someone to tell her the makeup isn’t working for her in her circle. She’s beautiful naturally and it distracts from her talent.
