What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?

by Mocha Momma on December 29, 2011

I only listed that as the title because of the song. But if you really want to tell me, please do. I can live vicariously through you which totally means NOT AT ALL but I will still have something to look forward to someday.

I’ll be at home with my cell phone in my hand awaiting Mallory’s phone call to PLEASE COME GET ME. She’s already asked me to be her DD which is so wrong. How did she know I didn’t have plans, huh? Why does she think I’m just going to sit here with some narwhal finger puppets (no, really, those exist) (and we have them) while I watch all the episodes of Doctor Who that I’ve been catching up on during my vacation? How is that not important, eh, Mallory?

I’m done making fun of my eldest now. Let’s just watch this really adorable video of these two crazy kids. (Maybe I’ll be watching THIS all night long, Mallory. Don’t tempt me!)

We’re getting dinner at a local BBQ place, then inviting another couple over to hang out, eat appetizer-y stuff, watch DVDs and drink various alcoholic beverages until everyone gets tired or it’s midnight – whichever comes first.

Funny you should ask. Just got off the phone with my BFF. This is the first year in the last five that she hasn’t worked on New Year’s Eve. This year she’s off, her husband is off, and the kids are at their mom’s. Neither my husband nor I are working that night either. We’re going out to an early-ish dinner at a local restaurant (nothing fancy – we’ll probably be overdressed in jeans) and then back to their house for fancy snacks (shrimp, brie, champagne cocktails), card games, and general happiness.

I’ll be humming this song while I’m headed to a party in Brooklyn. Then I’ll hum some Jay-Z songs because I’ll be taking the J and Z trains.

I’m having two New Years! Tomorrow I’m going to have a sweet romantic night in with my new boyfriend. I’m going to make dinner and watch Doctor Who. Then on Saturday I’m going to a New Years party to celebrate the life of my friend Nathan who passed away earlier this year. This has been a crazy year, I see much reflection in my future.

I think we are going to tuck the boy in and settle down to drink some wine, have some snacks, and watch Lord of the Rings.

Happy New Year!

We will hang out, put our little monster to bed, and probably have a few drinks while trying to make it until midnight! Awww … such an exciting life at my house!

I am thinking about going to watch night service with my church family. Otherwise, I am going to spend it with my kids just like last year. Have a wonderful new year, my friend.

Parents ARE, like, the eternal (free) taxi service. I’m using my father as such on New Year’s Day: I’ll be going to the house-party of an old family friend in the heart rural Scotland. Low key, but should be fun…

I will be attending two weddings (one’s at 1:30, the other at 7:00.) During the second reception, I will be wearing a New Year’s Eve party hat since the bride informed me that if I don’t, I am a grinch, and you want to humor a bride at her own party. Then I’m firing 2011. It’ll be great.
