When Mason walks into the room and says, “Hey, mom. Wanna hear something? I think you’ll like this song.” you just do it. When he pushes play on his iPod and starts Gotye’s song “Heart’s A Mess” and smiles at you, nodding, and seeking your approval for the song, you just like it. Instantly. You don’t even need to think about anything else. You’ll just like it.

At least I did. I do. This is just awesome.

When he tells you that he’d like to talk to you sometime about learning how to write better because he wants to learn about writing music reviews, you start wondering what magazines you should buy him so he can read them. And then you make time to talk to your son about writing and teaching him whatever it is that you know. Because that’s just what you do.
