This is a compensated review from BlogHer and Lincoln.
I live in the Land of Lincoln. So, who better to drive a Lincoln for review than I?
Ok, fine so maybe a professional race car driver because this bad boy has some serious horsepower under the hood. We’ll get to that in a moment.
For far too long I’ve done the mom minivan thing. For about ten years, in fact. Three years ago I decided to join the ‘crossover’ vehicle club and have decided to stay right there. It’s a good club to join and there are perks to it: you still driving sitting high up so you can see over most cars and you have lots of room for kids and groceries. But the best part is that you aren’t driving a minivan.

Since I’ve crossed over to the Dark Side I have decided not to return. Since I also got a chance to see what all the buzz is about the Lincoln MKT I decided to take it and learn as much as I can about that car. First of all, it’s a beautiful car. I liked the physical look of the grill, the rear, and the overall sleekness of the vehicle. Second, I learned about the EcoBoost system. It has some serious giddyup when you give it some gas and it’s like having a V6 engine with V8 power. Remember that race car driving comment earlier? This is what I’m talking about.
Things I love:
New Car Smell – That’s always a good thing.
Fast Car – This car has great acceleration and is roomy for my long-legged boys. They were completely comfortable in the back seat and even asked, “Hey, mom. How much room IS there in this car?” So, approval from the leggy boys.
Sync – The Sync system that I got to play with using my phone. Due to Bluetooth capability, I was able to sync up my phone, make calls from inside the car, find directions to the nearest gas station, restaurant, or movie theatre and all while hearing it come through the speaker system. Since I’m new to using the touch screen in the vehicle I did all of this while sitting in the parked car.
Comfort level – The seat adjusted to so many positions that I almost tired of trying to find out how comfortable I was. “How does this feel? Does this feel better?” It was almost like going to the eye doctor and picking which one you could see more clearly. Finally, after exhausting every possible direction and curvature of my seat to the body I discovered that I could move the foot pedal. Luckily, it was right where it needed to be for my comfort, but since I have a petite daughter this would have come in handy for her.

The color – Ok, so this isn’t supposed to be important. But the color of the car I was driving was Tuxedo Black which had these sparkly flecks to it and made it super sexy. The following picture, however, is also a pretty color but I totally preferred the black. Mmmm. The Tuxedo Black was delicious.
Roomy rear – Wait, am I talking about a human body or a car? Sure, every woman wants a roomy rear. IN HER VEHICLE. This had a drop down space that went under the third row seats that was incredibly spacious. However, I think improvement could be made on the lighting back there. One time while I was driving the car I stopped for enough groceries that I had to put them in the back but taking them out of the car once I got home was difficult because it wasn’t lit well enough.
Things I could live with:
Design – The low-to-the-ground look of the car completely appealed to me, but I did realize that I was lower than my other crossover vehicle experiences. Normally, I like to be raised up a little higher, but the ride was so smooth and comfortable that I could come to accept this if I bought this car.
Keyless remote – I drove the car for nearly a week so I did eventually get used to the fact that the car started with the push of a button. By the time I got used to it I started driving my other car again and I couldn’t quite remember that I wasn’t driving a Lincoln! However, this is minor and would be something I could live with and yet I have questions about this: would I be able to remote start the car? Since I don’t have a garage this is great importance to me.
The radio – the radio system seemed like it was a little fuzzy and I tried getting local radio stations to come in clearly and wasn’t able to do so. I have Sirius XM radio and missed it terribly while driving the Lincoln MKT. It wasn’t hooked up in the car I got to drive and I thought that was a crucial missing piece of the experience for people that don’t know what Sirius XM radio is like. It’s like buttah, folks. You’ll never want to listen to local radio again.

Since I drove the car less than a week I felt like I was just getting used to some of the bells and whistles on the car and could have come up with more to critique about it, but I felt like this was a car I could definitely drive and feel at home in once I got to really know it. When they dropped off the car I pretty much got the basic “Here’s how to adjust the seats” and “Here’s how to start the car” but I would have enjoyed a better tutorial on the Sync system (unless they were testing how smart I was to hook up that technology on my own).
It’s safe to say that I’m pretty smart. I figured it out with a little help from a friend.
You want to know how smart the folks at Lincoln are? They want to give something away to a lucky reader. They’d like me to help them give away a $500 Visa gift card to a lucky reader who comments on the following question: what is it that you’re looking for in a vehicle? Do you have to have a good safety rating? Do you desire a GPS system? Are you looking for the incredibly smooth qualities of the Sync system? A winner will be chosen on March 19, 2010 by a random number generator. Hey, it’s $500! Surely, you can come up with something you’d like in a car besides “new car smell.”

(The “Lincoln Night Out on the Town” giveaway will include a chance to drive an MKT for an evening, a deluxe spa package for two, dinner for two at a local restaurant, and a night at a local hotel! I need a safe quiet ride. Hearing wind whipping around the car makes me feel like I am in substandard quality no matter the safety rating. Also, the bells and whistles are pretty important too. Auto-wipers, bluetooth, moonroof, satellite capability, auto lights, great cup holders all sound so terrible to list as must-haves. But, they are when you spend a lot of time in the car.

I want a car that looks like it cost a fortune, but didn’t. I need something that is easy to load my kids and my 6′5 husband in. I also want something that gets decent gas mileage–i drive about 300 miles a week and want/need something that doesn’t have me filling up for a fortune every few days.
If the car came with an inside barista that would also be a huge bonus.

Heyya MochaMomma, this is a timely review since the hubs and I are in the market for a new car, to replace the ‘97 Chevy (yes, you read that right – ‘97!) that’s being held together in a few places by tape.
Our wish list for the new car includes remote/auto lock (ours is still manual, LoL!), heated sideview mirrors, that auto remote start thingy so the car can warm up without you having to sit in it freezing, seats that can easily accommodate short people I mean petites like me (the movable gas pedal you mentioned sounds like a good alternative!)… oh and a muffler that doesn’t deafen the passengers would be awesome!! I swear you know if I’m driving around town, just listen for the roar of the car, LoL!

I drive 13 miles to work and 13 miles home, all twisty, turny, 2 lane roads around the lakes, top 45 mph. I don’t need power. I need a cheap car, that is gas efficient, that I can fit 3 car seats in. It needs to be RELIABLE. I got rid of the last car that left me stranded at CostCo even though it was 14 months old. Lost my shirt. I want to get in, turn it on & go. I know I have to put gas in it & get the oil changed but that is all.

I’m so happy that the girls are still coming to you and finding the purses they need. The purse drive is awesome.
Regarding what I’m looking for in a car, I need it to have a smooth drive. GPS and Sirius should be standard at this point – it is 2010 after all. Heated seats a really cool. Great MPG is important. I’m old-school regarding the keyless thing – I actually LIKE having to use a key to start my car (plus, there’s less likelihood that I’ll lose my house keys without realizing it if I also need to find my key chain to make my car move). Oh, and I don’t like the new car smell at all.

I like sitting up higher in traffic & good suspension for a smooth ride. Probably my most important thing would be that it is good in winter weather, because I live in the Midwest. Storage room is good too, since there are a lot of horse supplies that ride around with me!

I like a car that isn’t noisy when the windows are open, especially on the highway (obviously I want safety, good mileage, etc.). I love my current car – but the wind noise is ridiculous, and I hate running the air-conditioner, lol.

I’m getting older and I’ve put in my time with plasticky vinyl and cramped riding. I want comfy seats, 2-3 sockets to charge my cell phone an run an inverter, and some kind of updatable GPS (so, that in 3 years I’m not driving to restaurants that ‘used’ to be there.)

Safety is extremely important to me as my biggest responsibility is our kids. Also, enough room for us is important – especially for our son. At 14, he’s already 6′4″. We’re looking at him driving soon, so a large enough footwell to give him enough space to room with his size 15 – 4E shoes is also really important!! I’d also like a quiet, comfortable and solid ride. Good gas mileage, and I also like to sit up higher in traffic without feeling like I’m about to topple over. I’ve always been impressed with Lincoln, so am hopeful about the new MKT.

I have inherited our minivan once hubby went and bought a SUV for himself. The minivan is fine but I want something snazzier(is that a word?). While I love snazzy more importantly, I’m looking for great gas milage, a gps, and safety. A new car smell isn’t bad either.
Amelia Sprout Said,

I’m looking for something that is safe, but not excessive. My family will only have three people in it, but all of us are tall. I don’t want to have to buy an SUV or a minivan just to be able to be able to get some size. I don’t need something that big and I don’t want to waste the gas it takes to drive one.
I would take a serious interest in American cars, and very specifically Ford, but it seems the only people making the efficient sport wagon type things are the Europeans. Next year I will likely replace one or both of my cars, and I’m frustrated that I can’t find anyone that has what I want.

I need navigation in a new car, and a rear back up cam. After having these features, they are ones I can not live without! An automatic starter would be key for those days I don’t want to hike out to the car before shlepping two kids out in the cold. I also need room between seats to allow adults to move around car seats easily, and enough room in the back to hold a stroller and a haul of groceries. Safety is #1 when carrying my two kiddos around, and I need something that can handle the snow!
Crystal Warren Said,

I think the things I look for most is the smoothness of the ride and how much room it provides without being too cumbersome. I love when a car handles well and it’s so much safer having a car that reacts smoothly when driving. As far as roominess it’s a dealbreaker if I can’t fit the 3 kids, one husband and random other kids that find their way into my car throughout the weekends…

I have 3 children so I require room, room and more room in my vehicle. I want it to be comfortable though so at 41 yrs. of age, lumbar support in the driver’s seat at least is a must. I also really, really really like for my car to have booty warmers in the seats
A GPS system is a must for getting to away soccer games and a dvd player keeps folks in the backseat from getting bored. We also require some place to plug in our ipods and need a sound system where different folks can plug in different ipods with headphones since no one in my family likes the same music. All these things seem frilly but I’m a working mom and I spend a lot of time in my car…it needs to be comfortable. Safety is a must too…I need to know that if something happens, I’m in the best vehicle in the world to keep us as safe as possible.

The thing that’s bugging me most about my car is how loud it is. I think the seals are wearing away because I can hear whistling on the freeway. I also have to turn the stereo up really loud on the freeway to hear the music over the street noise, then I’m blasted out when I’m back on surface streets. My next car needs to be QUIET. (and safe, comfortable, roomy with good gas mileage)

What am I looking for in a car?
I gave up my BMW X5 for a Prius when the price of gas skyrocketed last year. But the Prius is an incredibly tight fit for someone who is easily 3 inches too big for the front seat.
So what do I look for in a car? A car with a smooth ride, fast pick up, legroom, headroom and great gas mileage, and legroom. And headroom.
Pick me!

I’m looking for a car or an SUV that is much like a mother-of-the-bride dress. Classy, but not necessarily flashy. Big enough to accommodate my teenage daughters without looking like an automobile that someone who is old enough to have teenage daughters would drive. One that subtly says sexy, with enough zip to bring out the youthful sass in me, but mature enough that it has responsible features like good gas mileage and airbags. I’m looking for a car that has all the cool features of my past, with the extra perks I could be looking for in the future – like easy access and room to put a future grandchild in a car seat without ending up in traction. I want something practical yet stylish, so it can turn my head each time I open its door.

The things I look for are – good safety ratings, fits rear facing car seats well while still allowing my tall husband plenty of leg room in the front, and has room in the back seat for our two mastiffs. Beyond that I am not super picky!

Of course I want the vehicle to look cool, as does the Lincoln MKT. But safety is far more important. So I’d want all the latest safety features to be standard and perhaps emergency response at a nominal fee added to every vehicle on the road. I don’t think that’s too much to ask.
Thanx for the cool giveaway!

Top things I look for are safety ratings, reliability/quality, gas mileage and (yes, I’m short) a height adjustable driver’s seat. I don’t need all the bells and whistles – people should be DRIVING not tweeting, texting, talking on cell phones. ( ok – rant over. ;D )

Since I currently drive an 8 year old vehicle, it doesn’t take much to impress me…just the word “new” when it comes to a vehicle gets me all excited!! But I would have to say that my “must haves” are: 1) good rear legroom, since I have a 12 year old son, that is already 6 foot and doesn’t seem like he is going to stop growing any time soon and 2) good gas mileage…oh yeah and for my 3 year old to entertain her a rear seat entertainment center would be great, but not necessary.
Thanks!

I would think everyone would want a great safety rating first & foremost but great styling too is what attracts me to many cars. Environmental impact is of great concern to most of us as well, savings on mpg is always a plus. Personally I miss the keyless entry I had on other cars we’ve owned, it was an invaluable extra for our family & saved us many anxiety filled moments!!! Smooth ride, give us a little hp & we a few of the things I’ve mentioned & we/re good to go……

Reliability is one of the things I most look for in a car. And I don’t JUST mean the car. I need to trust who sells it to me and the service people as well. I travel A LOT with my job and I know NOTHING about cars. You can tout mileage rates and safety features to me ALL day, but in the end, I want someone who helps me UNDERSTAND it all… and if the car itself is easy to understand? even better.

The most important thing that I’m looking for in a vehicle is a great safety rating because I need to know that the vehicle that I’m driving my family around in is going to keep us safe, especially if we get in an accident. Another thing that is most important to me is that the vehicle is an American car as I refuse to buy a foreign car. A few other factors that rank high in importance to me, roomy enough for a family of 4 & must have 4 doors, affordability (must fit into my budget) and good gas mileage (I’m not buying a gas hog). Luxury amentities such as GPS, sync system, etc. are like icing on the cake as they are not neccessary, but they certainly make the ride more enjoyable.

“really great looking crossover, could be a definite improvement on just an ordinary evening out by yourself or with a small group, also known as family members. The other prizes sound nice also. One evening could be just what it takes to start the brain waves in motion towards the purchase of your own or lease option. A safer driving enviroment can only enhance the your driving experience. Does it come in my favorite color black tulip, probably on wait list or back order. Yes i would love to use this vehicle for an evening. Just took my FORD in for a diagnostic check up, oh the joys of automobile ownership!! I like the feel of wind beneath my wings. Driving is a pleasure and I like the feeling associated with a full tank of gasoline and extra time for the ride.
